About Counselling and Psychotherapy

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. It often takes courage to reach out for support, especially when life feels overwhelming or painful. Many people wonder if therapy is for them, or feel uncertain about what to expect. That’s completely natural.
Counselling and psychotherapy offers a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It’s a place where you don’t have to pretend or hold things together – somewhere you can begin to understand yourself more deeply and find new ways of moving forward.
I work in a person-centred and trauma-informed way. This means I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as you explore your challenges. I aim to offer a warm, non-judgemental relationship where you feel accepted just as you are.
Being trauma-informed means I understand that past experiences – including those that may have been overwhelming, distressing, or harmful – can continue to shape how we feel and respond today. Together, we can move at your pace, always prioritising your sense of safety and choice in the process.

The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of counselling. It’s not about finding the “perfect” therapist, but the right fit for you. Someone you feel comfortable with, and who can offer the understanding and support you need. It’s okay if this takes a little time – that’s part of the process.
People come to counselling for many different reasons. Some are seeking help with specific issues such as anxiety, depression, loss, or trauma. Others want to understand themselves better, or to untangle complex feelings and relationships.
